I just realized that I haven’t posted any blogpost in a long time. I guess there is too much happening in my life.
Last November I was invited by my friend Chieko Hazeki to come to Japan for an exhibition in Fukushima.
This was a chance of a lifetime so of course I went!
It was a long direct flight with KLM to Tokyo where Chieko picked me up from the airport. First stop was Fukushima, for an exhibition organized by Mrs. Otake together with her students. Most dolls were made in Mrs. Otake’s (Japanese) style but my fellow NIADA artist JoEllen Trilling was also invited. This is her work:
Here are some of the other dolls in this exhibition. They have beautiful details.
The opening ceremonies were very official and JoEllen and I had a great time.
And here you can see the presentation of my work:
Everything was very well taken care of and we met many VIPs. Mrs. Otake did everything to make us feel welcome, even organizing a karaoke evening. The only downside was that most Japanese people don’t speak English and my Japanese is zero. Fortunately I had Google translate.
